My Poem Performance of “Once Upon a Twice”

Hi there. Last week, I was quite busy with the Once Upon a Twice online YouTube recitation contest.

Once Upon a Twice is a creative Jabberwocky-like poem written by Denise Doyen. The book tells a story of a young and adventurous but naive mousling called Jam, who gone through a thrilling experience of life.

So one day, I received an email from the author who got to know me through my action poems on Youtube. She invited me to join the contest, which I happily agreed.

Because the poem was so creative, I was motivated to compose music and songs to the poem too. It’s my first time composing a song by the way, and I really enjoyed the process!

Due to some busy events, I almost couldn’t enter the contest, which ends on 10th October 2009.

Luckily, my mom encouraged me and I was able to act out and upload the video at 3:30 pm 10th October 2009, Pacific Time.

Update (12 October 2009): Huray! I have been just informed that I am the international winner of the contest. Thank you very much to the author who has created such a wonderful poem. I really enjoyed creating the performance!

I’m Officially the Youngest Published Poet in Malaysia

IMG_7719Today (09/09/09), I am enlisted in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) as the youngest published poet in Malaysia. I feel very honored to be enlisted in MBR.

I want to thank MBR for organizing this event, and Dato’ Danny Ooi for founding MBR. They have personal achievement records and group event records. The personal achievement records help encourage the person while the group records help to build the spirit of teamwork. I am very proud to be a Malaysian.

I am also very grateful to my mother and father for supporting my hobby and lifting it into the professional level.

First, Azrene, the Head of Research in MBR, emailed me to ask me to join the Malaysia Book of Records on July 13 after my appearance with the Prime Minister on the press on 11 July.

Then, they had to confirm that I am the youngest poet by checking the bookstores for poetry books that were written by kids no older than 9. None were found.

On 5 September, I was invited to their office and they asked me to write a funny poem based on the topics they chose on the spot. So, here is the poem (I took one hour to finish it):

My Kitty’s Adventure

My kitty was so bored of me
for I hug him all day.
He chose to take a small break
and go for a holiday.

He jumped into my toy plane.
He didn’t want to stay.
He buckled up his seatbelt
and zoomed out of the way.

With his great catty power,
he went out my open door.
He flew into the big blue skies.
He wanted to explore.

But there was a big thunderstorm.
The plane was struck by lightning!
He then began to crash! Oh no!
I’m sure that it was frightening.

Good thing he learned to swim because
he crashed into a river.
Bad thing it was the Angel Falls!
He then began to shiver.

He fell 1000 meters from
that great, tall waterfall.
He fell onto an ape that thought
my kitty was a ball.

And with his strength, he threw my kitty
up into the sky.
(I wish that I were him because
I always wished to fly.)

At that time, I was gazing at some
pretty clouds of red.
Then I saw my kitty flying.
Then he landed on my head!

“My darling, it is you!” I said.
I was indeed delighted!
”Meow! Meow! Meow!” he loudly sang
as we were reunited.

After finishing, I also acted out the poem on the spot in front of the founder of MBR, Dato’ Danny Ooi. After that, my mother chose this date (09/09/09) to receive the record certificate.

My mother chose 09/09/09 because number 9 in Chinese culture means ‘forever’. After receiving the certificate, then my mother realized this date was really God-given, because my Chinese name means protection from God + forever.

Here are some photos from the event. I want to thank Simon Liew (A kind friend I met online) for helping me take all these nice photos (Yes, all photos here are taken by him).

My brother, Rockson, was invited to dance to Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal”, too.

Holding a personal record in the Malaysia Book of Records has certainly encouraged me to become a better person each day.

I hope you enjoyed this post!

Cheers!

Gloson Photography (24 Photos)

I love photography. And recently, I have become very interested in photography. I don’t have any professional cameras (or not I should’ve started earlier), but just a small cheap one (which doesn’t capture as well as other cameras do).

One fine day, there was this beautiful purple sunset. It was spectacular! So, I decided to take a photo of it. I also took some other photos. Next, I enhanced the photos using Picasa (I only used it to make the pictures more contrast).

Then, I started my flickr account (Please add me if you want 🙂 ) and uploaded the photos there.

By the way, today, 31st August 2009, is Malaysia’s 52nd National Day! So here are the photos of my beloved country 🙂

Then, the morning after the next day, I went cycling to take some photographs. Here are some best ones that I took.

Shot while the car is moving. When the car came, I quickly hit the ‘snap’ button and turned the camera to the direction of the moving car while the camera was capturing the scene.
